About the project

The memorial plaque “The August Sister of Mercy” is installed on the facade of Istra Drama Theatre in memory of the infirmary for soldiers wounded during World War I.

The plaque depicts Empress Alexandra Feodorovna against the background of soldiers ready to fight. The work is a combination of the alto relieve for the portrait and the Egyptian relief for the background. The text is placed at the bottom of the sign.

During World War I, the Empress patronized the hospitals and medical supply warehouses, arranged a system of infirmaries for wounded soldiers, and served as a nurse.
