Best Implemented Apartment / Private House Interior Design Project
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The task was complex and challenging — to transform an old interior for new residents. The space changed dramatically through the introduction of sophisticated design solutions, the addition of color, art objects, and contemporary furniture.
Custom-made decorative handles became one of the project’s highlights. They hint at Art Deco aesthetics without overwhelming the space. Initially, the team searched for the perfect handles at antique markets in Paris but eventually found them in St. Petersburg, in a local antique salon. Another fortunate discovery was several colorful tie sketches by Valentin Yudashkin, which fit seamlessly into the interior.
A turning point in the project’s development came from a visit to the Anna Nova Gallery, where the homeowner fell in love with Anna Andrzhievskaya’s expressive painting In the Captivity of Love. The artwork is so vivid that it could have overpowered the interior, yet it became its central accent instead.
This project is distinctive and deeply personal — like a bracelet where each bead is chosen by hand rather than produced in a factory.

The St. Petersburg-based studio “Vazhen.Design,” founded by Natalia Vazhenina in 2012, specializes primarily in private house and apartment interiors, though it also works on public projects. The studio does not adhere to a single stylistic direction, drawing inspiration from the stories and personalities of its clients and their families. Over the years, it has grown into a “family” studio in spirit — many clients have returned for multiple projects, valuing its highly personalized approach.
