Best Implemented Restoration Project
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The mansion, located at 4 Mira Avenue, Kostroma, Russia, was originally built in 1815 and underwent a significant reconstruction in 1880. This brick building is one of the most outstanding examples of Kostroma’s eclectic architecture.
In 1880, the famous “Bolshaya Moskovskaya” hotel complex opened here, renowned not only for its comfortable rooms but also for the best restaurant in the city. The establishment featured the only all-female brass orchestra in Russia, adding a distinctive charm to the atmosphere. During the Soviet era, the mansion became a center of administrative activity, housing various institutions.
In 2019, the building was purchased by Alexey Metelkov, who carried out extensive restoration work. The project restored the mansion’s historic features and reinstated its restaurant function. Today, the two upper floors house a stylish restaurant, while the first floor operates a cheesemaking workshop.
