Best Implemented Interior Design Project for Public Space
About the project (provided by the applicant)
Syrovar Restaurant is located in a historic mansion built in 1815 in the center of Kostroma. Before the Revolution, it housed the city’s finest restaurant, where the first female brass band in Russia performed. After decades of neglect, a large-scale restoration was carried out in 2019–2023, returning the building to its original purpose — a place for gatherings and hospitality.
The restaurant’s interior is designed in the Neo-Russian style. Decorative bells, carved shutters, carpets, restored 19th-century stained-glass windows, and the image of the Firebird shape a space infused with folklore and Russian cultural heritage. The central hall with its long communal table evokes ancient feasts, while the Firebird feather installation symbolically echoes the spirit of the cuisine, where dishes are prepared over an open flame.
Syrovar is a place where history and ancestral heritage merge with modern comfort, offering the city a contemporary cultural landmark. It is a public space filled with meaning and energy, uniting people and preserving traditions.
