The Serenity and Healing Power of Water

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The new EMU Health Centre reimagines an existing 1,258 m² building with 80 fixed columns. Inspired by the serenity and healing power of water, the design introduces curving forms, flowing circulation, and natural therapy elements. Water’s qualities of renewal, balance, and lightness shape the spatial experience: rippling movement from a central circulation core, integrated water features, and multi-sensory design with light, sound, and touch. LED screens respond to user movement, creating a dynamic connection with the environment. The program is divided into three key functions—psychology, emergency, and polyclinics—organized for clarity and efficiency. The redesign addresses the building’s current challenges of low light, poor sanitation and cramped spaces by opening areas to natural light, softening transitions, and enhancing spatial flow. Just as water purifies through constant movement, the proposal aims to achieve smooth flow and therapy to patients through the spatial experience.
