About the project (provided by the applicant)
The set is a four-part movable platform, with each section able to move independently on stage. This platform serves multiple functions: pontoons at a crossing, trenches, a truck bed, and the cellar of a house through opening hatches. The performance space is divided into areas on the platform, under the platform, and in the gaps on the stage deck. The wooden floorboards are painted in protective khaki. Lights are integrated under the platforms, allowing the scene depicting a soldier’s struggle with death to show both the world of the living and the dead. The entire space is unified in a single installation, which transforms depending on the scene: pontoons, shelter, or mass grave.

The Moscow Theatre “Workshop of P.N. Fomenko” was founded in July 1993 by decree of the Mayor of Moscow. The company considers its founding date July 1988, when Petr Fomenko gathered a group of students for his workshop at the directing faculty of GITIS. Graduates of the 1993 Fomenko Workshop became the foundation of the young theatre.
Authors of the project
Set Designer: Evgenia Shutina, creator of over 70 productions, graduate of the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio (Oleg Sheintsis workshop, 2009), recipient of the Academy of Arts diploma for scenography in “Walpurgis Night, or the Steps of the Commander” at the Moscow Art Theatre and “Romulus the Great” at the Vakhtangov Theatre.
