Project
Veris Retreat
Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant)
«Veris» is a woven rope made from rice straw, native to the Mazandaran dialect and culture.
The triangular form is a symbolic motif of Northern Iran’s vernacular architecture, modular and expandable from part to whole.
Elevated above ground, the retreat minimizes land impact and visual obstruction while preserving natural views.
Materials used—bamboo, veris, and renewable fabrics—are chosen for their biodegradability, aiming for minimal carbon footprint.
Veris adapts to time: by day, its fabric skin retracts to create an open, ventilated space with wide views; by night, it closes to form a safe, intimate, and enclosed environment.
