About the project (provided by the applicant)
The design process of “Connect” began with a fundamental question: how can a structure be integrated into a site with dramatic topography and a unique view toward Latian Dam—maximizing the experience of the landscape while minimizing disruption to it?
And further: what strategies can reduce energy consumption and lead to a more sustainable project?
To explore these goals, we started with the most archetypal form of a house—a pitched roof volume that universally evokes the idea of “home” and shelter. This familiar form was then embedded into the earth, and two extruded arms were drawn from it:
• A vertical arm, descending into the ground and shaping a sunken courtyard that defines the entrance and vertical circulation;
• A horizontal arm, aligned toward the panoramic view of the dam.
