The concept for the new Vologda Airport terminal is based on the imagery of Vologda architecture, encompassing a combination of wooden and stone architectural styles that evolved in the city from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Traditional Vologda lace is renowned worldwide.
The project’s idea is to demonstrate the uniqueness of Vologda architecture and convey its distinctive features. The building’s design incorporates recognizable images, symbols, and patterns.
The building has a rectangular form with a pronounced canopy, reminiscent in color and structure of the St. Sophia Cathedral. Between the arches, perforations feature a snowflake pattern, referencing Vologda lace and its history. The façade is decorated with elements imitating the carving characteristic of 17th-century Russian architecture.
