Project
Office Space in the Voshod Factory Building
Category
Best Implemented Project for Adaptation of a Cultural Heritage Site
About the project (provided by the applicant)
This building, dating back to the second half of the 19th century, housed a sewing production for almost 100 years — first the Rumyantsev Sewing Factory, then Krasny Shveinik, and later Voshod. Today it is an office building where we have sought to preserve as many authentic details as possible. Despite multiple interior renovations throughout its history, we aimed to retain all historical features, including those from the Soviet period.
The main idea was to restore the interiors’ historical appearance as much as possible while adapting the building to modern needs. Drywall partitions covering the old brick were dismantled, and Monier vaults were discovered beneath suspended ceilings. Some plaster on the vaults was missing, and it was decided to preserve them in this condition. Under modern porcelain stoneware flooring, Soviet-era granite breccia floors were found. Today, the building accommodates a contemporary office space.
