Wat Pho Thong Chedi and Garuda Museum

Best Architectural Design for Museum

About the project (provided by the applicant)
Located on the outskirts of Bangkok, the Wat Pho Thong Chedi and Garuda Museum is Thailand’s first Buddhist Garuda Museum. Designed by Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS Design and Research, the project reimagines sacred architecture for the 21st century. Rooted in a historic canal axis, the temple features the Buddha Waterfall Pathway, Worship Hall, Garuda Museum, and Meditation Hall. The design integrates natural light, water, and spiritual symbolism to create a meditative, community-oriented space. Rising 48 meters, the temple is visible from the Chao Phraya River and was made possible through collective public support. The architects blend tradition with innovation to foster emotional connection, cultural continuity, and a new model of spiritual public space. This work reflects their belief that architecture can serve as a bridge between people, memory, and society.
