About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Fijian Pavilion tackles environmental and cultural crises by blending renewable technologies with indigenous materials and methods. This semi-aquatic, modular structure—crafted from local bamboo and earth—adapts to land and marine settings. It generates clean energy via Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) panels and Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) turbines, while its curved roof collects rainwater. Beyond function, it is a cultural gathering space, celebrating weaving traditions and rituals. At sea, its base supports coral and marine life; on land, it nurtures vegetation and birdlife. As a living platform, it supplies resources while strengthening identity, pride, and ecological awareness. Community members join through workshops and stewardship programs. Every element—from bladeless turbines to flexible OPV—prioritizes resilience, accessibility, and sustainability, offering a model where advanced systems and vernacular design coexist in harmony.
