Project
Museum Relaunch in Yanaul Through Urban Environment Transformation
Category
Best Implemented Project of Temporary or Permanent Museum Exposition
About the project (provided by the applicant)
Stagnating local history museums are a widespread issue across Russia. As in many small towns, Yanaul faced the problem of declining interest in culture and local history among residents and youth. By working with the urban environment, it became possible to transform a state institution into a multifunctional space that became the center of a cultural and educational cluster in the heart of this small town in the north of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The project “Culture of the Small Town: Activation of the Center of Yanaul” allows the Local History Museum to “step outside” the building to host educational and cultural events. One of the key elements on the museum grounds became the so-called “time cabinet” — an informational stand developed with local historians and museum staff, telling the story of the town, the district, and notable residents of Yanaul.
