Project
Historical Memory Center in the village of Zaitsevo
Category
Best Architectural Design for Museum
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The museum is dedicated to the tragedy of the destruction of villages and the deportation of their residents. Without depicting concentration camps, it conveys the image of a destroyed village with a museum located beneath it.
The concept is a metaphor of a book of memory, with halls of different depths. The journey begins in a dark hall representing the destruction of daily life. Light gradually increases, reflecting the overcoming of tragedy, and the path concludes in a hall of reflection with a view of the memorial.
Architectural solutions:
- Deconstruction conveys instability
- Emptiness symbolizes loss through shadow projections
- Materials of destruction contrast with elements of hope
- Inclined surfaces evoke the sense of lost balance
