Project
Tourist Eco-Complex on the “Zapstroy” Quarry Site
Category
Best Project of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The project envisions a tourist eco-village on the site of a former quarry in the Leningrad Region as a contemporary interpretation of the northern village lifestyle, where the architecture of each element refers to specific archetypes.
Its expressiveness is based on the image of a Russian northern village with its compact, irregular structure, creating a protected yet picturesque environment. The visual language of the project is not a direct stylization of traditional wooden houses, but a reflection of modern demands for eco-seclusion.
Within the post-industrial landscape, the complex forms a new local identity, based not on ethnography but on surroundings, function, and atmosphere. Conical volumes, symbolizing shelter, and hearth-inspired forms evoke universal human values of warmth and safety.
