Water Sports Base in Primorsky District
Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The project includes three flagpoles, each 179.5 m high, designed to raise flags measuring 40 × 60 m and weighing 0.5 tons. They are located on hydraulic structures in the Gulf of Finland near the 300th Anniversary Park of Saint Petersburg.
The hydraulic structures also house facilities for the water sports base, where equipment for stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, and windsurfing can be rented.
The raising of the three flags is timed to significant historical dates associated with each: 165 years of the Russian Empire flag, 100 years of the Red Banner, and 330 years of Peter the Great’s tricolor. At different times, each flag served as a state symbol of Russia and is now a historical relic.
The flagpoles themselves, at 179.5 meters, form the world’s first ensemble of three flagpoles of this height. This project leaves future generations a new landmark in Saint Petersburg, combining respect for history with pride in the country.
