A mid-1990s duplex is located in a cottage settlement on a slope: from the second floor, it offers a rare view for the Moscow region over fields and forests to the horizon. This view attracted the owner. Challenges of the house included a shared wall with neighbors, low ceilings (2.40 m and in some places 2.20 m), a narrow staircase to the second floor, and no staircase to the basement. Despite a charming house and garden, the limited area and tight staircases made access inconvenient.
The client initially requested large panoramic windows, but the team proposed more: a double-height living room to enhance the sense of height, all staircases redesigned as comfortable two-flight stairs from the basement to the second floor, a transparent staircase to the second floor, an expanded second-floor window, relocation of the porch, and a summer gallery with a patio and sliding curtains. Essentially, the house was completely redesigned.
