About the project
The Renaissance well has been restored enhancing its volume. The simple corten steel geometric shapes, together with the lighting, creates a strong interconnection with the ancient framework, helping to reveal and understand this balance between ancient history, original character and the present days. The well, formerly an abandoned water cistern, has become a grand spiral staircase; a wine library that descends 10 meters down, celebrating all the wineries that have given their contribution to create, from that very soil, the precious Brunello wine. The journey continues in the brought back to new life wine cellar. The restoration has allowed to made the old galleries functional again, ancient cotto tiles have been undone and reused, custom made bottle holders and lights characterize the spaces.This way, in addition to the enhancement of an otherwise forgotten old cistern, the ancient wine cellar and the well are linked by Argiano's main theme and attraction.

Applicant and author of the project
Filippo Gastone Scheggi is an Italian architect, living in Tuscany and operating throughout Italy. He graduated at university «La Sapienza», in Rome, with a master degree in restoration. Although Filippo Gastone mainly works on interior design projects and renovations for private estates, agriturismos and B&B, restaurant and stores; he has also worked as technical director on many restoration projects in Vatican, Rome, and other like the Cathedral of Milan.
