The Golden Trezzini Awards are honored to announce that Dr. Fatemeh Mehdizadeh Saradj, Professor at the School of Architecture and Environmental Design at the Iran University of Science and Technology, has joined the Jury board members.

“I am very happy to join the jury of the International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design along with the world leaders in architecture. Since this competition is free, it is much more inclusive than other similar competitions and provides the possibility of participation for students or new freelance architects. Architectural competitions are like mental exercises for designers, and architects must practice them continuously,” Dr. Fatemeh Mehdizadeh Saradj says.

In 1985, Fatemeh Mehdizadeh Saradj started studying architecture at Tehran University and was able to graduate with an M.Sc. degree in 1993 in architectural engineering and urbanism. During these years, she worked in consulting engineer offices as an assistant in architectural drawing and planning as well as researching.

From 1993 up to 1999, she mainly taught modules related to basic architectural design and planning in universities. Then in 1999, she moved to England to start a PhD titled “Unreinforced Masonry Domed Buildings in Regions of High Seismic Risk of Iran: A Procedure for Selecting Historic Buildings for Protection and Repair” at the School of Architecture of Sheffield University. After completing her PhD in 2005, she taught several modules in Iranian universities including the basics of architectural design for first-year architecture students, pathology and conservation of historic masonry buildings, research methodology for Master students, and Advanced Research methodology for PhD students; as well as conducting research projects.

In November 2008, she attended the “International Training Course on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage”, held by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Chair Programme, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto (Japan).

During this period, she was able to co-author three books with Mehrdad Hejazi, published by WIT Press: “Persian Architectural Heritage: Architecture”; “Persian Architectural Heritage: Structure”; and “Persian Architectural Heritage: Conservation”. She also published two books in Persian by the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), namely “Pathology and Evaluation of Historic Buildings”, and «Infill Architectural Design in the Iranian Historic Context». In addition, she has published 117 papers in academic journals and 72 papers in national and international conferences, mostly related to either physics or messages of urban and architectural heritage and vernacular buildings, as well as sustainable architecture design or retrofit.

Fatemeh Mehdizadeh Saradj is also honoured to have supervised 22 graduated PhDs, and 137 Master theses and dissertations in the architecture department, mainly on subjects related to sustainable architecture design, and urban and architectural heritage conservation.
