Alex

Nomination
Best Implemented Apartment / Private House Interior Design Project

About the project
With this project, named Alex after the owner’s name, I wanted to demonstrate that size does not matter, and a high level of lifestyle and design can still be achieved in public housing, even within 47 sqm of space. This new two-room public housing flat came with the standard compartmentalised areas for living, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The bachelor wanted a minimalist home, and to deliver the concept in a way which was completely tailored to his lifestyle, I made radical changes to the flat’s layout that reflects Alex’s priorities. Breaking from convention, my design does away with standard features such as fixed rooms and doors as there is no need for them, but still delivers on the enjoyment and functionality of the spaces. I reconfigured the functional spaces, expressing them as a series of cuboid cabinetry with a unified design language. They were pushed against the flat’s perimeter to optimise the common space. Less is more; I don’t design more than what is required.
