“All Benois — All the Benois”

The project “All Benois — All the Benois” is an encyclopaedia of Russian art shown through the fates and legacy of a brilliant dynasty.

At the centre of the exhibition is Alexander Nikolaevich Benois, art historian, artist, stage designer, critic and educator. Through him the viewer becomes acquainted with other members of the family: Leonty, Nikolai and Albert Benois, Evgeny Lansere and Zinaida Serebryakova. The concept of the exhibition determined the organisation of the 4,150 sq. m space. The second floor was devoted to the work of A.N. Benois, while the first floor presented the history of the family and its circle through the “Alphabet in Pictures.”

In total more than 700 exhibits from more than 60 museums, archives and private collections were shown. The architecture of the exhibition embodied the curatorial concept, and the spectacular design made the project attractive to a wide public. The exhibition was visited by 310,000 people, for whom 1,583 guided tours and 102 educational events were organised. The project received 1,200 positive reviews, 1.8 million online views of materials and thousands of mentions in the media.
