About the project
The Beacon of Light is a reconstruction of the Al Nouri Mosque which was destroyed by the occupation of ISIS in 2014. The Unesco site is known for being one of the oldest cities in the world. «The linking point» in arabic — is now at the beginning of its recovery process.
Post conflict, the mosque will revive the city of Mosul and act as a symbol of hope and resilience. The design strategy was to build back better, using contemporary construction and advanced building systems.
The design of the complex delicately combines all the elements that are crucial for healing, growth and prosperity, while understanding the immense emotion and sensitivity that the people of mosul have towards Al Nouri Mosque. The project intends to support and elevate the city, it does not stand out but rather blends in and celebrates the mosque and Al Hadbaa minaret.
