Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project

About the project
At restoration of this first Moscow-based children's hospice, the authors referred to a story of Sadako Sasaki, a girl from Hiroshima. Having been diagnosed leukemia, this 12-year-old girl believed that any wish could come true if she made 1,000 paper cranes. Unfortunately, she only managed to make 644 cranes before she died, but since then, these origami birds have become a symbol of peace and hope.

The elements of the façade and architectural details resemble origami shapes – roofs of the balconies and the winter garden, and the shelter over the entrance group look as if made of paper. Columns resemble the origami elements used to make paper cranes. The color pallet is bright, as origami is traditionally made of multicolored paper. Window frames are also styled as paper pieces to symbolize various characters and fates.
