About the project
The project included construction of a new airport terminal and a memorial park facility in the place where the previous airport was destroyed. The throughput capacity of the airport was increased from 2 to 4 thousand passengers an hour. The local terricone became the key inspiration for the architect. The memorial facility is located in the basement of the airport. Its layout is a broken semi-circle, which symbolizes the life of the airport that was interrupted by its destruction in 2014. Layouts of the other floors resemble a bird with outspread wings – Phoenix, a symbol of a new rise from the ashes.
