Project
Park of Sovereign States

Nomination
Best Project of Public Space

About the project
The goal of the project is to create a must-visit place on the Torfyanovka-Helsinki route, which will become a new point of interest in Eastern Finland.

The design concept is a sculpture consisting of multilevel rectangular concrete blocks. The size of each rectangle is proportional to the area of the 193 independent states. The blocks line up, forming a spiral staircase, which is accessible to visitors. Each country’s name is written in a font of the same size and placed on the visible part of the block wall.

The dialogue between the low and the upper parts of the park emphasizes the post-industrial nature of the modern world. The raised middle part of the sculpture works as a natural amphitheater for contemplating the bay of Hamina Bay.
