About the project
On February 22 through May 21, 2023, the exhibition FIRST POSITION. THE RUSSIAN BALLET took place in the Manege exhibition center, designed by Planet9 and ROSIZO and supported by the President’s Foundation for Culture Initiatives.

The show was a travel through the history of the ballet dance in Russia, which included 1,000+ exhibits from 46 Russian museums, archives, and libraries. The exhibition hall comprised 8 dedicated areas, covering three centuries of the Russian ballet through the history of the country and the prism of the cultural, political, and scientific revolutions.  Besides the exhibits related to ballet directly, the visitors were showcased paintings by Vrubel and Serebryakova, personal costumes and ballet shoes once owned by the top ballet dancers, posters, old videos and photos.
