Restoration of the Federal Cultural Heritage Site "Pavilion No. 35 'Glavtabak'," VDNKh

The pavilion, dedicated to the production and sale of tobacco, was built based on the design of the artist V. S. Kondratiev and the architect K. M. Smirnov for the opening of the postwar 1954 Exhibition.

The pavilion is like a fairy-tale jewelry box, adorned both inside and out. Its architecture is distinguished by a vivid individuality. The building incorporated motifs of national architecture and the countries of the East. At the same time, the architect utilized certain techniques of Russian architecture—for instance, the motifs and imagery of the domed crown of the Petrovsky Travel Palace, which, in turn, appeal to the forms of Pseudo-Gothic and Old Russian architecture. The decoration of the strikingly beautiful facade is composed of more than 10,000 multicolored ceramic details with a rich color palette and relief images of the tobacco plant.

Repair and restoration work to preserve the building's facades and interiors was aimed at maintaining their style, the character of the finishes, and the original decor, as well as restoring lost elements.
