Project
Glazed tiling for Chirrup Hearth

Category
Best Implemented Façade or Interior Project Using Ceramics

About the project
The artist made glazed tiles for the open fireplace located in a private house for part-time residence in a village 200 km away from Novosibirsk. All the tiles were made manually with a press form and painted with flux pigments over wet enamel. The owners call their place ‘a bird house’, as the bird theme is all over the place – in furniture, lamps, textiles, and paintings on the walls. This was why the author used the similar solutions in her glazed tiles, featuring sunny and hot Siberian summer, birds singing in the woods and flowery meadows. Chromatic and ornamental extravagance isn’t occasional – the tiling wall is to resemble a patch of fabric, suggestive of the Siberian merchantry’s traditions.
