"Hamlet"

The set design for the performance of "Hamlet" represents Hamlet's internal Elsinore, the space of his worldview. In the beginning, it retains the outlines of a world that was once whole, yet exists solely as memory.

At its core is the image of an antique temple, a sign of lost unity. The lower stylobate and the entablature reflected above it form two poles — earth and sky — striving to converge. Between them, ghostly columns of light emerge through the smoke, tracing the remnants of a vanished architecture. Light attempts to restore it and hold the world back from disintegration. The architecture is assembled from weathered, worn planks of a street theater: sacred form exists within transient matter.

As the action unfolds, the cold horizon on the painted canvases appears as the possibility of a path, only to rise and vanish. The familiar world remains above, while Hamlet and the audience descend into a liminal space. By the finale, it becomes simultaneously a space of alienation and shelter — a place where a person hides from a collapsing world, still harboring hope for a connection with it.
