Project
The Skies Kenozero Lands Depositary

Category

Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project

The depositary is designed to preserve the museum exhibits of the Kenozero National Park Foundation – paintings, artisanal pieces, and the painted ‘skies’ dating back to the 18th-19th century.  The Skies was a special ceiling slab used in wooden temples and painted with some Biblical motives.

State-of-the-art engineering solutions are used in combination with decorative elements that praise the Russian North architecture. All the octagonal shapes are a reference to the building modules typical for wooden Northern designs, with octagons symbolizing the Universal architectonics. The Skies are stored in the western part of the depositary, and the eastern section is used for restoration studios and storage of paintings, icons, and other exhibits.
