Kushelev-Bezborodko Mansion, Interior Restoration and Revival

Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project

About the project
Kushelev-Bezborodko Mansion is a rare example of listed property of federal importance which has been restored by private investors – and not by the state. Over its long history the building has had a number of famous owners, among them patrons and connoisseurs of art. Its architects and designers at different times were leading names like R. von Genrichsen, N. Benois and A. Hammerstedt. They gave the Mansion its stylish eclectic interiors, which, magically, survived from conversion into overcrowded communal flats during the Soviet period. The deserted and crumbling building has been cleverly reconstructed and lovingly restored through private funding. Carefully installed modern engineering systems, which preserve the antique decor, make for comfortable everyday living. Today the Mansion is, at last, back to its former residential glory. Its long-suffering walls and unique historic interiors, restored drawing upon best professional practice, welcome its new residents with open arms.
