Los Compadres

Located deep in the forest, 55 minutes from Valle de Bravo, Los Compadres sits on a hard-to-reach plot along a trail that deteriorates during the rainy season, forcing a construction system simple to execute on site yet complex in its engineering. Two structural walls support half-inch braided steel cables spaced every 30 cm, over which a wood lining shapes a hanging roof of hyperbolic geometry. Ribs every 60 cm control rainwater runoff, and a waterproofed surface topped with tepojal and dark soil allows native vegetation to grow, regulating temperature and helping the cabin blend into the landscape through the seasons. Beneath this roof, three bedrooms and an open social area of living room, dining room and kitchen unfold in a sober, natural palette, built primarily from reclaimed wood sourced through controlled local logging.
