Project
Mill Pavilion

Nomination
Best Project of Public Space by a Student

About the project
The Mill Pavilion is a place to explore your creativity, meditate and muse. The pavilion should convey the idea that the mill is what transforms nature into culture. Its concept was inspired by the shape of a shed: being simple but very expressive, it perfectly fits into the landscape. The wooden structure stands on stilts, which makes it light and weightless. The partitions inside slow you down and remind of an entryway in a traditional Russian countryside house leading to a larger room. The front door is deliberately hidden to enhance mystery. In the main room, there is a millstone, inviting visitors to try and make some flour, to ensure they feel the genius loci.
