About the project

This is the most northern memorial in Russia, located in the permafrost zone. It was opened on August 22, 2023, and is 5.5 meters tall.

Rocky peaks in this location result in vertical drops, and the general style of the memorial was designed to match the look of the landscape. Oleg Kuvayev was a Soviet geophysicist, a geologist and a writer, and the memorial shows him at his young age. Mr. Kuvayev wrote Territory novel, which told the reader how gold was discovered in Chukotka in the late 1940s through early 1950s.
