About the project
This Earth redefined the idea of a dessert shop experience with aim to create communication between architecture and its context by taking inspiration from its surroundings' natural existence. Located at the recreational beachfront in Jakarta, This Earth acted as a public space with a demonstration of Biomorphic Architecture, an adaptation of a seashell organic form into an elegant, light, and unified architectural and structural form.
This 48 square meter pop-up building, applied the principle of symmetry, curvature, repetitious pattern of a seashell, that not only allowed efficiency and increased stability, but also generated an enticing ribbed interior space. The structural performance relied upon the three dimensional curved ribs of iron pipes whose size was gradually and symmetrically escalating towards the centre. Translucent membrane covers defined the form of the roof and walls, functioning simultaneously as structure and enclosure that allowed the building to glow at night.
