Tierras Temporary Housing

Best Implemented Project of Residential or Mixed-Use Estate

About the project
Located in plantations of rubber trees for latex extraction, one of the main economic activities in Palenque, Chiapas, said activity is possible due to the humid-subtropical climate of the zone. People from Haiti, Mexico, Central and South America pass through the area in a condition of immigrants looking for better opportunities and to reach the U.S. Therefore, the area works as a temporary place along the journey to rest and work for a little time.
Due to this condition workers establish themselves in a very improvised and precarious manner in their working places, causing a huge deterioration in their quality of life. The starting point was to generate a system adapted to the region; therefore, the architecture responds directly to a humid-subtropical climate, in which temperatures are constantly superior to 26°C with a huge amount of humidity. To accomplish bioclimatic efficiency, it was essential to consider various passive technics as part of the architecture.
