Music academy in Vyborg

Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project
A multipurpose facility was to be located on a rather small extended site. The academy was designed as a group of uneven blocks. The academic block occupies almost a half of the total volume, and there is a concert hall in the middle, and near the famous Alvar Aalto Library there is a lobby, specially designed for holding minor events, with a sophisticated system of levels and stairs.
On the outside, the building is finished with lamellas of different length that resemble both a conventionalized piano and a sea shell. Local lighting with Aurora Borealis effect is to be installed. For the fine architectural concept, this project is often referred to as Waves of Sound behind the scenes.
