Project
Waterways of the Russian North: Museum

Category
Best Architectural Design for Museum

About the project
The museum’s architecture is inspired by the Russian North. Its building on the riverbank is reminiscent of a beached wooden ark with a limestone bottom. That is a reference to the Vytegorskaya boat found on the coast of Lake Onega, which is the main exhibit of the museum. The building is made of logs standing upright, with the one and only elegant detail – a replica of a window facing the first building of the museum, which serves as a symbol of the continuity of generations. On the observation deck, which reminds of the steering oar of a ship, there is a sea bell. The museum has a clear layout and offers multiple excursion routes.
