Jacques White is an architect, Full Professor and Director of the School of Architecture at Laval University, where he teaches architectural design and building cultures. He graduated from this same institution in 1983 and 1996. After his professional studies, he first worked in private practice for a decade (Gauthier Guité Roy, BBGL) before he started to teach at the School of Architecture at Laval University (practical training instructor in 1992, professor since 2000). Until recently, he pursued two parallel careers: one in academia and the other in private practice where he acted as a consultant designer (Anne Carrier, ABCP, CCM2, Coarchitecture and on his own account), with prizes and awards obtained. His graduate studies on the assessment of quality in architectural and urban design, especially in competitions, along with multiple related professional experiences, have gradually led to his recognition as a specialist in these fields. He currently acts as a consultant to the Ordre des architectes du Québec (OAQ), and to numerous government departments and public organisations on various architectural, urban planning and art projects.
