With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Yuriy Zemtsov, an exceptional St. Petersburg architect and a member of the Golden Trezzini Awards jury. He left this world on May 11, 2024, at the age of 85.

Yuriy Zemtsov was the head of the architectural firm «Zemtsov, Kondiain and Partners». In recognition of his outstanding achievements in architecture, he was awarded the title of Honored Architect of the Russian Federation.

Prof. Zemtsov was also a laureate of the State Prizes of the RSFSR (1986) and the Russian Federation (1996). He was a full member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAASN) and a member of the Urban Planning Council under the Government of St. Petersburg.

Prof. Zemtsov successfully combined his professional activities with teaching, serving as a professor at the Department of Architecture of the Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.

Under his leadership, the firm «Zemtsov, Kondiain and Partners» implemented a number of iconic projects that have become an integral part of modern St. Petersburg. These include the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the Corinthia Nevsky Palace Hotel, the Dom na Shpalernoy residential complex, the Nevsky Center shopping center, Truda Square, the Baltiysky shopping and entertainment complex, and the Gazprom residential and office building on Mytninskaya Embankment, 5.

The Organizing Committee of the Golden Trezzini Awards and the entire architectural community grieve together with Prof. Zemtsov's relatives, friends and colleagues and express their sincere condolences. We share your pain and sorrow in this difficult hour.

Yuriy Zemtsov's contributions to the architectural landscape of St. Petersburg are immeasurable. His designs were characterized by their elegance, functionality, and sensitivity to the city's historical context. Beyond his architectural achievements, Yuriy Zemtsov was also a dedicated educator and mentor. He was passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with others, and he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of countless young architects.

Yuriy Zemtsov's passing is a significant loss to the world of architecture. He was a visionary leader, a gifted architect, and a kind and generous man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
