The fragile inner world of Hester Collyer, the main character, shatters when her lover breaks up with her, but lives of other characters goes wrong, too. The scenic design represents an unsettled and unstable position by means of several podiums all covered in cracks. They resemble icebergs that are going to fall to pieces any moment.
The decorations follow the ups and downs of Hester’s life, and the podiums explode with red, white, orange, and blue light. There are not too many household items on the stage — just the piano, the table, the radio, the luggage case, and the telephone), but they keep the audience in touch with reality.
