Best Implemented Interior Design Project for Public Space
About the project (provided by the applicant)
Poppy Lounge is a small rental space with a kitchen, located on the 3rd floor of an old multi-tenant building in central Nagoya. Designed as a place for conversation and shared time, it welcomes diverse gatherings—from private meals to pop-ups and cultural events. Its defining feature is the ceiling, covered with over 300 pieces of 0.3mm copper sheet in a traditional «uroko-bari» (scale-like) pattern, creating a stage-like atmosphere that heightens the sense of presence and memory. A 3-meter central table, crafted from 100-year-old timber salvaged from a Nagoya townhouse, anchors the space. Subtle contrasts—between the vintage elements and contemporary touches like FRP lighting and seating—compose a setting where the everyday is transformed. Rather than offering luxury, the room evokes depth, humor, and lasting impressions.
